Beauty Reborn:
Plus-Size Supermodel Charlotte Coyle Is on a Mission
Charlotte Coyle is determined to change the way the world sees plus-size women. She has created a British version of the American television show Top Model, called Beauty Reborn, to do just that. Coyle is on a mission! Not content to dabble in furthering the empowerment and acceptance of plus size modeling, she brings together some of the biggest names in English fashion to get this job done.
Charlotte has traveled the UK with a major network film crew in tow, looking for the plus-size beauty who’s got what it takes to make to the top of the modeling world. Her search narrowed to twelve finalists, ranging in size from 14 to 26. This is big news. Literally!
“I hope the retail and magazine industry will wake up to the needs of women over a size 16 and start to recognise that big really can be beautiful," Coyle beams. A few weeks before she began shooting in London, I had the pleasure of spending some time with Charlotte in New York.
Here is a little more about this charming and talented plus-size role model...
[Maddy] Who or what inspires you to follow your dreams?
[Charlotte] Quintessential British supermodel Sophie Dahl was my first inspiration. She truly is “fab!” I must say what really motivates me daily is the need to show curvy women in a bright light.
[Maddy] Tell me about your show, Beauty Reborn: How did you come up with this amazing idea and what have you enjoyed most about it?
[Charlotte] The show will change people’s perception of curvy women and that’s a fact!!!!! I’m the main character in the show which I enjoy so much because I’ve had the opportunity to meet some really great people like Isabelle Blow, Editor of Tatler who was the lady who discovered Sophie Dahl! I chose 12 beautiful girls from all over the UK and one of them will represent curvy ladies in a very positive light.
[Maddy] What else can you tell me about the show?
[Charlotte] It will show beauty and hopefully put pressure on the “high end” stores to carry bigger sizes. We also want to have true plus-size women being represented in modeling and the fashion world. As I said, this show truly was designed to change the way society views plus-size women.
[Maddy] What is your advice to plus size women and aspiring plus-size models?
[Charlotte] Keep going and follow your heart -- always believe in who you are. Keep going and love yourself.
Good advice Charlotte! We couldn’t agree more and we certainly love you!!
