POOLATES
Rebecca Pfeiffer developed the aquatic exercise program called; Poolates.™ Poolates™ is a program that combines the principles of the Pilates method with the benefits of aquatic exercise. Boo” points out “is very different because all the movements are drawn from Pilates mat, standing or apparatus exercises.” In addition, many movements are performed one leg at a time, recruiting more muscle stabilizers, and enhancing the strength and toning benefits of the movements. By using the resistance and buoyancy enhancing effects of water.” Pfeiffer is passionate about health and fitness, and is a certified Pilates instructor and certified personal trainer. Rebecca created a great DVD so those of you who have a swimming pool can watch and then set into action yourself. As well as a list experts across the country on her website Poolates.com. She shared some thoughts on why this is such a special way to do Pilates aquatically:
- "For land-based exercisers, Poolates™ is a cross-training challenge adding the resistance and movement of water."
- "For people with chronic injuries or illnesses, people who are of a larger size, and pregnant women, Poolates™ strengthens while overcoming limited mobility, muscle fatigue, and joint stress."
- "Poolates provides a safe environment for Pilates, strength and balance work with water."
- "For everyone from beginners to conditioned athletes, Poolates™ is the perfect marriage of Pilates with certain benefits achievable only through aquatic exercise."
I find that the ability to mix the two has been a great way to stay out of the boredom track myself! There is this surge of energy that happens when we as women empower ourselves to meet our bodies strong. Fitness does not equal thin, but it does not mean having to hit the traditional gym or aerobics class, as I learned these past 8 months.
When you get out of the mind-set that working out is for thin people and not for us larger than life curvy women, second, that the gym is a rigorous ordeal, and, third, that going to the gym is the only form of exercise, you can begin to see exercise as a strengthening of the mind as well as the body.
Each woman needs to find her own exercise path. Try something new. Perhaps it’s Pilates or Poolates. Remember: Do exercise not to just shrink the numbers on a scale but with the desire for a stronger core and connection to your body! After all, You're worth it!
