Spruce up your walls with color this Spring!
Your home, whether it’s a house or an apartment, is a reflection of you. It reflects not only your personality, but how you feel about yourself.
Do you ever feel like your house has the "Blahs?" Wouldn't it be great if you could call a house doctor? You can. I am an Interior Decorator by trade and I DO make house calls. In fact, women just like you call me their ‘Interior Doctor!’
As any good doctor knows, people have fears -- and in the interior decorating arena, the biggest fear my clients have is in choosing paint colors for their home. This is where I come in with a bit of RX for the worrisome would be decorator -- I allay those fears by helping you see that color and paint are nothing to be afraid of but instead good medicine for your walls.
Please -- have no fear of color since it is absolutely essential in your home. It marries furnishings and accessories while setting the overall mood of a room. Using color on your walls will not only make YOU feel comfortable but will make your space finished and complete.
Here are several tips to help you get started...
Picking out paint from paint chips
When choosing color from paint chips and then applying it to your wall, you will notice that the color will always look darker in the room. Therefore when selecting colors, choose a shade or two lighter than what you want.
Master Bedroom
Painting a rich color like a deep green or scarlet is flattering to most skin tones and it creates a romantic feeling.
Family Room or Living Room
Paint one wall a deeper color so that it stands out! This would be called the 'accent wall'. The wall that comes into view opposite your main entrance is in most cases the best candidate.
Guest Bathrooms
What’s the one room everyone uses? That's right the guest bathroom! You could paint it a bold color since this will give a small room an air of sophistication. Or better yet, if you are feeling daring, wallpaper in an exotic animal print or bold floral wallpaper.
Kitchen
Since most kitchens are cluttered, choose a color that is easy on the eyes. Think bright and fresh like a sunny yellow
or gold.
Be inspired to do some Spring cleaning. Have no fear, just 'go for it' -- just pick up a paintbrush and try one room for starters! Happy Painting! |
